Albany, NY — A late-season bout of freezing rain is making travel hazardous across parts of eastern New York and western Massachusetts this morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. EDT Sunday for Northern Berkshire County in Massachusetts and several counties in eastern New York, including Saratoga, Herkimer, Fulton, Warren, and Washington. Affected cities include Pittsfield, Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, and Old Forge.
The storm is delivering a light glaze to up to one-tenth of an inch of ice, creating extremely slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads, and bridges. Local officials are urging drivers to reduce speed and allow extra time for travel, particularly on untreated surfaces.
Power outages remain a concern due to the potential for ice accumulation on trees and utility lines. Residents are encouraged to charge devices in advance and report outages to local utilities.
The advisory area covers a wide region from Brattleboro, VT, through Glens Falls and North Adams, with ice expected to taper off by mid-morning. Icy conditions could linger beyond the advisory window, especially in shaded or higher elevation areas.
Travelers should monitor local updates and delay non-essential trips where possible.
