Baltimore, MD – Freezing rain and icy conditions are set to disrupt Maryland’s roads Tuesday morning, creating hazardous travel near Baltimore and Washington. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for central Maryland, northern Virginia, and parts of Washington, D.C., effective from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.
According to the NWS, light freezing rain will begin before sunrise Tuesday, with a thin glaze of ice accumulating on roadways and sidewalks. Highways such as I-95, I-70, and US-15 are expected to be particularly slippery during the morning rush hour. A dusting of snow is also possible in higher elevations, potentially reducing visibility. Drivers are urged to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and prepare for delays.
Tuesday’s forecast predicts temperatures hovering around freezing in the morning, climbing to a high of 46°F by the afternoon as the freezing rain transitions to light rain. Winds will remain calm, and conditions are expected to improve after 1 p.m.
Looking ahead, Christmas Day will bring partly sunny skies with highs near 44°F. The remainder of the week will feature mild temperatures, with highs in the low 50s by the weekend and a chance of rain Saturday.
