Cumberland, MD — Communities across western Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and northern Virginia remain under flood warnings Tuesday evening as persistent rainfall threatens roads, creeks, and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore and Washington, the flood warnings extend through midnight EDT for counties including Allegany and Garrett in Maryland; Mineral, Hardy, Hampshire, Grant, and Pendleton in West Virginia; and Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier, Culpeper, and Warren in Virginia.

So far, 2 to 5 inches of rain have already fallen across the affected region, with up to 2 additional inches expected. The ongoing precipitation is prompting flash flooding in several towns such as Cumberland, Frostburg, Keyser, Moorefield, Leesburg, and Warrenton. Streams and rivers are rapidly rising due to runoff from earlier storms.

Travelers are advised to avoid flood-prone roads such as US 220 along North Mill Creek and WV-28 near Dumpling Run. Authorities urge drivers not to attempt to cross flooded roadways, especially after dark when hazards are more difficult to detect.

Residents should monitor local alerts and prepare for potential evacuations in vulnerable areas. For flood safety and preparedness information, visit weather.gov/safety/flood.
