Maryland – Gusty winds whip across Baltimore this morning as damp roads reflect headlights and tree branches sway above sidewalks. The air feels restless, and conditions are expected to worsen as the day progresses, especially for anyone traveling during the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service, a Wind Advisory is in effect from noon until 10 p.m. for much of central Maryland, including Baltimore and the I-95 corridor, as well as Washington, D.C. West winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected. The strongest winds may linger into the evening, particularly on hilltops, bridges, and exposed roadways.

Scattered showers move through early, leaving roads wet ahead of the strongest gusts. Drivers should use caution on I-95, I-83, I-695, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, where crosswinds can make steering difficult. High-profile vehicles are especially vulnerable. Secure holiday decorations, trash cans, and outdoor furniture now, as gusts may blow unsecured items into streets.

As winds gradually ease later tonight, colder air pushes in behind the system. Temperatures drop quickly, falling into the upper 20s by Saturday morning. Any leftover moisture may refreeze, creating patchy black ice on untreated roads, ramps, and sidewalks.

Saturday turns calmer and brighter. Sunshine returns, highs reach the low 40s, and travel conditions improve. Sunday stays mostly sunny with highs near 49°F, though nights remain cold, keeping a winter edge in place.

Looking ahead to Christmas travel, meteorologists are monitoring a developing winter pattern. While significant snow is not locked in, models hint at a rain-to-snow setup early next week, depending on temperature timing. Even light snow could slow holiday travel plans.

Five-Day Outlook:

  • Saturday: Sunny, high 43°F
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 49°F
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, high 39°F
  • Tuesday: Chance of rain, high 45°F
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 49°F
