Baltimore, MD – High tide sent water onto streets and waterfront walkways early Friday, as a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. for Southern Baltimore County and the city of Baltimore.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, water levels reached 3.0 feet at the Inner Harbor overnight, covering portions of Thames Street and nearing the dragon boat dock. At Bowleys Quarters, minor flooding encroached on yards, with water about one foot above typical levels. Forecasters expect another round of elevated tides by 4:18 p.m. Friday.
Officials warn drivers not to attempt to pass through flooded roadways. “Allow extra travel time, especially near the waterfront,” emergency management advised. Tides are running one to one and a half feet above normal. Areas near Fort McHenry and the Northwest Branch Patapsco River remain most at risk during high tide cycles.
While the flood risk eases after Friday morning, Baltimore’s stretch of warm, sunny fall weather continues into early next week. Highs climb into the upper 70s to near 80 through Sunday before cooling midweek. According to forecasters, a chance of showers develops by Tuesday night, bringing the next shift in conditions.
Residents are urged to protect vehicles, outdoor belongings, and flood-prone property through the morning high tides. Pedestrians should avoid the waterfront promenade and marinas until waters recede.
