WASHINGTON – The first widespread frost of the season is expected across the DC metro area, central Maryland, and northern Virginia early Friday morning as temperatures tumble into the low to mid-30s. The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has issued a Frost Advisory from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST Friday, warning that sensitive plants could be damaged or killed if left uncovered.
According to the Weather Service, the advisory includes the District of Columbia, along with Cecil, Baltimore, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Mary’s, and Calvert counties in Maryland, and Fairfax, Arlington, Stafford, King George, and Prince William counties in Virginia. Clear skies and calm winds will create ideal conditions for frost formation, particularly in low-lying and rural areas.
Residents are urged to cover outdoor vegetation, bring potted plants indoors, and prepare for frost on windshields and bridges before sunrise. Morning commuters along I-95, I-66, and the Capital Beltway may need extra time to clear frost from vehicles.
Temperatures will rise quickly after sunrise Friday, with sunshine returning and afternoon highs in the mid- to upper 50s. A warmer pattern is expected this weekend, followed by a brief cool-down early next week.
