Maryland residents face a flood watch today as fall sunshine waits just around the corner.
The National Weather Service warns that a Coastal Flood Watch is in effect for Anne Arundel County late Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Motorists traveling near the I-95 corridor, Patapsco River, and Chesapeake Bay should prepare for possible delays and detours. Residents in low-lying areas are urged to move vehicles to higher ground and monitor water levels.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, flooding concerns ease by Thursday afternoon, setting up a stretch of dry, sunny fall weather. The watch impacts portions of central Maryland, northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Moderate coastal flooding is possible through Thursday, especially along waterfront communities.

Looking ahead, the first full weekend of October brings classic fall conditions. Friday through Tuesday will feature mostly sunny skies, light breezes, and highs in the low to upper 70s—perfect weather for early Halloween decorating or fall festivals across the region.

Extended 5-Day Forecast (Annandale, VA)

  • Thursday, Oct. 2: High near 69°F, sunny, breezy. Flood watch in morning.
  • Friday, Oct. 3: Mostly sunny, high 71°F.
  • Saturday, Oct. 4: Sunny, high 76°F.
  • Sunday, Oct. 5: Sunny, high 78°F.
  • Monday, Oct. 6: Mostly sunny, high 80°F.

Flood risk is short-term, but commuters should allow extra travel time this morning and stay alert. The sunny weekend ahead will give Maryland, D.C., and Virginia residents the first true taste of October fall weather.
