Baltimore, Maryland – Thunderstorms and 96° heat are expected to slam into the Baltimore area by 2 p.m. Sunday, capping a muggy weekend with a dangerous summer weather alert. Heat index values could soar as high as 102°, raising risks of heat exhaustion and disrupting afternoon travel.

According to the National Weather Service, a chance of storms and showers will increase across central Maryland Sunday afternoon, with the most intense activity likely between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain may affect travel along I-95, I-83, and surrounding routes. Residents should stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and monitor live alerts. Precipitation chances rise to 50% Sunday night, continuing into early Monday.

After the storms, Monday stays unsettled with a 60% chance of rain, mainly after 11 a.m. Tuesday brings another 80% chance of showers and storms, just as the workweek begins to ramp up.
