Baltimore, MD – Snow and freezing rain are expected to create hazardous conditions across parts of Maryland starting Sunday night. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for areas west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with ice accumulations potentially exceeding 1/4 inch.
According to the National Weather Service, snow and sleet are likely to begin Sunday night into early Monday morning along I-68, with total snowfall ranging from 1 to 5 inches depending on the area. The watch covers cities like Cumberland and Oakland, where travel may become dangerous due to icy conditions. Residents are urged to monitor updates and limit non-essential travel during peak hours of the storm.
Rain is expected to mix with snow Monday morning before temperatures climb into the mid-40s. Commuters should prepare for icy roadways during the morning rush. By Monday evening, rain will dominate much of the region, creating potential flooding risks in low-lying areas.
Looking ahead, temperatures will rebound briefly Tuesday, reaching the low 60s, before another round of rain is forecast. Wednesday brings cooler air, with highs near 52 degrees and a 30% chance of rain.
The National Weather Service advises checking local forecasts frequently and preparing for power outages in areas prone to ice accumulations. Motorists should keep an emergency kit in their vehicles and allow extra travel time.
