Baltimore, Maryland – Snow-covered roads and reduced traction are creating hazardous travel conditions across much of Maryland early Sunday, with impacts stretching from the mountains of Western Maryland to the Interstate 95 corridor by evening. Drivers are urged to slow down as periods of snow continue to affect highways, secondary roads, and untreated surfaces.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Western Garrett County until mid-morning, where one to two inches of snow has already accumulated. Across central, northern, and northeastern Maryland, advisories extend through Sunday evening as additional snowfall develops later in the day.
Snow tapered briefly in some areas after sunrise, but conditions are expected to deteriorate again this afternoon, especially near and east of Baltimore. Communities including Carroll County, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, Howard, Montgomery, Harford, and Cecil counties could see one to three inches of total accumulation, with the highest amounts in northeastern Maryland.
Maryland State Highway Administration crews continue treating roadways, but slick spots are likely, particularly on bridges, ramps, and less-traveled roads. Motorists are advised to allow extra time, reduce speed, and check 511 for the latest road conditions.
Snow is expected to end by early Sunday evening, though lingering slick conditions may persist after snowfall stops. Additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen later today.
