Baltimore, MD – A winter storm is set to impact Maryland on Wednesday, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain that could create dangerous travel conditions by the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin before 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a transition to freezing rain and sleet overnight as temperatures drop to near 31 degrees. Black ice may form on untreated roads, including I-95, I-83, and I-70, making travel hazardous.

Wednesday Night Travel Warning

As precipitation shifts to freezing rain Wednesday night, roads could become slick, especially on bridges and overpasses. Winds will be light, but any ice accumulation could lead to difficult driving conditions. The Maryland Department of Transportation advises drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and avoid unnecessary trips during peak freezing conditions.

Thursday: Rain and Warmer Temperatures

The wintry mix will turn to steady rain by Thursday morning, with temperatures climbing to a high of 42 degrees. While the ice risk diminishes, heavy rain could create ponding on roadways.

Weekend Forecast: Another Wintry Mix Possible

After a brief dry period Thursday night and Friday, another storm system may bring a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain Saturday. Temperatures will hover around 39 degrees, making for another messy day of travel. Rain will continue into Sunday, with highs near 50.

Stay Prepared

Drivers should stay updated on weather alerts and road conditions. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, including blankets, water, and a flashlight. Stay tuned to local forecasts for any changes in storm timing or intensity.
