Baltimore, Md. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to move across Maryland Tuesday afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and localized flooding possible in more than 20 counties through 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9 p.m. EDT for areas including Baltimore City, Montgomery County, Frederick, Anne Arundel, and the entire Eastern Shore. The watch includes nearly all of central, southern, and eastern Maryland, where scattered storms could intensify quickly with wind gusts over 60 mph.

Heavy downpours may lead to flash flooding on roadways like I-95, U.S. Route 50, and Route 301, especially during the evening commute. Power outages are possible from downed trees and utility lines. Emergency officials advise residents to secure outdoor items, avoid flooded roads, and have mobile devices charged in case of outages.

Coastal areas in Calvert, St. Mary’s, and Worcester counties could also see marine-related hazards with high winds and choppy conditions on the Chesapeake Bay.

The severe threat will taper after sunset, though additional warnings or updates could follow depending on storm development.
