Baltimore, Maryland – Damaging winds, torrential downpours, and dangerous lightning threaten Maryland communities this evening as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for most of the state until 9 p.m. Tuesday. Roads may become slick and power outages are possible as storms intensify across Baltimore, the D.C. suburbs, and the Eastern Shore.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, all of Baltimore City and counties including Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Howard, Harford, and Frederick are at risk through tonight. The watch covers both central and eastern regions, stretching to Worcester and Somerset along the coast. Emergency management officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for possible downed trees and power lines.

Key highways like I-95, I-70, and the Baltimore Beltway could see sudden slowdowns or closures during peak storms. Commuters in Annapolis, Towson, Silver Spring, and Salisbury should expect rapid weather changes. If thunder roars, move indoors immediately and avoid using electronics or plumbing until storms pass.

This is the first widespread severe weather event for Maryland in July, echoing similar July storm threats from recent years. Storms are expected to weaken late tonight, but additional advisories may be issued as the system tracks east.

Warnings remain in effect until 9 p.m. More updates will be issued if conditions worsen.
