Baltimore, Md. – Strong storms could rattle much of Maryland through 10 p.m. Thursday, with threats of damaging wind, hail, and localized flooding spanning from the D.C. suburbs to the Eastern Shore.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch (No. 464) was issued at 2:20 p.m. for 17 counties and Baltimore City. Areas under the watch include Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Carroll, and Frederick counties. The primary risks include 60+ mph wind gusts, isolated hail up to quarter size, and rapid ponding on roads.

Residents in low-lying areas, especially along I-95 and U.S. Route 50, should prepare for sudden downpours and limited visibility. Power outages are possible if trees or branches are knocked down. Commuters are urged to delay travel where possible or use caution on wet roadways.

BGE and PEPCO have crews on standby, and residents are encouraged to charge devices, secure outdoor items, and monitor alerts via NOAA Weather Radio or mobile apps.

Storms are expected to taper off by late evening, but the NWS warns that additional watches or warnings could be issued if conditions intensify.
