Baltimore, MD – Drivers and residents across Maryland, Virginia, and the D.C. metro area should prepare for flash flooding and dangerous thunderstorms through Saturday evening, with the most severe impacts expected along and east of I-81.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, the risk for strong to severe storms will increase Friday afternoon and evening, bringing heavy rain, damaging winds, and the potential for flash flooding overnight. The threat continues into Saturday as a secondary cold front pushes through the region, sparking more rounds of showers and thunderstorms.
In Baltimore and Washington, D.C., temperatures will hold near 80°F Friday before dipping into the 70s Saturday. Flood-prone areas, including urban zones and low-lying roads, could become impassable during periods of heavy rain. Along I-81, especially in areas eastward like Winchester and Harper’s Ferry, conditions could deteriorate rapidly during peak travel times.
Winds will pick up Saturday afternoon, gusting from the northwest as drier air begins to move in. Residents should secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during storms. Charge devices now and prepare for isolated power outages.
Conditions improve Sunday, with clearer skies and cooler temperatures signaling a calmer start to the week. Additional weather updates are expected Friday night as the system intensifies.
