BALTIMORE, Md. – Warm, sunny weather kicks off the week across Maryland, but a sharp cooldown is on the way as a strong cold front pushes through midweek. Patchy fog early Monday will give way to sunshine and highs near the mid-80s, making it feel more like late summer than early October.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, increasing clouds on Tuesday will precede showers and a few thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Some areas could see brief downpours and gusts up to 20 mph as the front crosses the state. By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will tumble into the upper 60s, nearly 15 degrees cooler than Monday.

In western Maryland, highs will slide from the mid-70s to the low 50s by Thursday, while central and eastern parts of the state drop into the low 60s. The chill will linger through Friday morning, with lows dipping into the 40s before sunshine returns to close out the week.

Drivers should watch for fog during early commutes Monday and plan for slick roads Tuesday night. The next round of fair, fall-like weather arrives Thursday with crisp air and clear skies.
