Baltimore, MD – Maryland residents are being urged to prepare for a stretch of volatile winter weather as multiple Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to early forecasts. The pattern may create recurring travel impacts across the Mid-Atlantic, including central and western Maryland.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a persistent northwest-flow pattern will steer several clipper disturbances from the Great Lakes into the Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic next week. These fast-moving systems—often referred to collectively as the “Clipper Express”—are known for generating sudden snow bursts, gusty winds, and rapid temperature drops.

The first disturbance is expected Saturday night, with additional waves likely arriving every 48 hours. While snowfall totals are uncertain, the NWS cautions that even light, brief accumulation may lead to slick roads in Baltimore, Towson, Columbia, and communities along the I-95 corridor.

Forecasters emphasize that the track of each clipper will dictate where snow develops and how intense each burst becomes. Western Maryland—particularly Allegany and Garrett counties—may see enhanced snowfall due to elevation and upslope flow behind each system.

Travel concerns may extend across Annapolis, the Eastern Shore, and southern Maryland depending on how each disturbance evolves between December 7 and 13. Quick shifts in visibility and road conditions are possible statewide.

The NWS urges residents to monitor updated forecasts frequently as timing and intensity may change with each approaching clipper.
