Baltimore, MD – A powerful cold front is sweeping across the region this morning, bringing a sharp temperature drop, gusty northwest winds, and light mountain snow, according to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington.
Highs will fall 15 to 25 degrees colder than Sunday, with most of the region topping out in the 40s to low 50s. In the Allegheny Mountains, temperatures will remain in the 20s and 30s, where upslope snow showers continue through the day.
Forecasters say winds of 10–20 mph, gusting up to 30 mph, will make it feel even colder across northern Virginia, Maryland, and the eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Wind chills could dip into the teens and 20s in higher elevations.
Drivers traveling west on I-68 or U.S. 33 should use caution for reduced visibility and slick conditions in the mountains. Elsewhere, skies will be partly cloudy and dry but blustery.
Temperatures will stay cool Tuesday, then moderate into the 50s and 60s by midweek as calmer weather returns.
