Baltimore, Md. – The first frost advisory of the fall is in effect for western Maryland as temperatures dip into the mid-30s overnight, threatening sensitive plants and gardens by early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the advisory covers the higher terrain of Garrett County, including Oakland, where lows could fall to 35 degrees. Elsewhere across Maryland, overnight temperatures will stay in the 40s and low 50s, with Baltimore bottoming out near 58 degrees and Washington around 53.

Residents in the Allegheny Mountains are urged to protect outdoor vegetation, as frost may damage crops and flowers left uncovered. The advisory runs through 8 a.m. Monday, after which conditions will gradually warm. Motorists in western Maryland should also watch for patchy frost on windshields during the morning commute.

In central and eastern Maryland, cooler weather will be noticeable but not hazardous. Westminster and Bel Air will dip into the low 50s, while coastal areas such as Lexington Park hold near 59 degrees.

The frost threat will be limited to western Maryland tonight, but forecasters note additional advisories are possible later this week if clear skies and light winds persist.
