Baltimore, MD – Freezing temperatures are expected to impact much of Maryland and the surrounding Washington, D.C., area overnight into Wednesday morning. With temperatures plunging into the low 20s and even the teens in some areas, residents are urged to take precautions to protect outdoor plants and vulnerable outdoor pipes.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas are forecast to fall as low as 20°F in some parts. Areas such as Oakland, Cumberland, and Winchester could see lows around 20°F, while more central locations like Baltimore and Washington will experience temperatures in the mid-20s. The cold snap is expected to last from 8 p.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday.
While frost and freeze warnings are not in effect due to the growing season not yet officially starting, this cold weather could still cause damage to early season crops and unprotected plants. Residents should be mindful of their surroundings, covering sensitive plants and insulating outdoor plumbing where needed.
This cold front comes as a reminder of the typical unpredictability of early April weather in the region, where temperatures can fluctuate dramatically.
