Baltimore, Maryland – Tidal flooding and heavy rain continue to batter parts of Maryland this week, disrupting commutes and threatening vulnerable areas along the Chesapeake Bay and I-95 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch remains in effect for Montgomery County and Washington, D.C., until 6 a.m. Wednesday, with more isolated flooding possible through Friday. A Coastal Flood Advisory also continues for Southern Baltimore County and the city of Baltimore until 10 a.m. Wednesday, as high tides push water onto roads and into low-lying neighborhoods.
At 3.5 feet, Thames Street in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is already experiencing water over the promenade. Similar impacts are reported in Bowleys Quarters. Morning commuters near Fort McHenry should use alternate routes and avoid standing water.
Thunderstorms remain likely Thursday into Friday, with another round of heavy rain possible Friday afternoon. Rain totals are expected between a quarter to half an inch per event, with isolated higher amounts in thunderstorms.
Highs will stay in the upper 70s to low 80s through the weekend, keeping that muggy spring feel in place. Patchy fog may also develop after sunset each evening, reducing visibility on major roadways like I-70 and US-29.
