BALTIMORE, Md. – Coastal Maryland is bracing for a wet, windy weekend as October’s first major storm system pushes toward the Mid-Atlantic. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch for Anne Arundel County beginning Friday afternoon, with flooding possible along low-lying areas of the Chesapeake Bay and the Tidal Potomac. Breezy conditions could make Saturday travel challenging, especially for drivers along I-95 and those heading toward Baltimore’s Inner Harbor or Annapolis.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, rain chances increase sharply by Saturday morning as a deep low-pressure system tracks up the coast. Showers and embedded thunderstorms may lead to localized flooding, especially near storm drains and tidal inlets. Winds could gust to 25 mph, making it tough for small watercraft and weekend outdoor events.

Residents should secure decorations and outdoor Halloween displays, charge electronics, and monitor local alerts for any new Flood or Gale Warnings. Coastal residents are advised to avoid shoreline roads and check alternate routes if planning travel toward I-97, I-695, or U.S. 50.

By Sunday night, the system moves north, bringing gradual clearing and cooler air into early next week. Monday will feel more like true fall—crisp, breezy, and dry—perfect for pumpkin patches and early leaf viewing.
