Maryland – Cold air presses against the Inner Harbor early this morning as wind ripples the water and rattles bare branches. Sidewalks feel stiff underfoot, and shaded pavement can stay slick longer than expected.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures hover near freezing early, with highs reaching the mid-30s later today. Gusty west winds will continue, creating a brisk feel and lowering wind chills across the I-95 corridor. While skies stay mostly dry today, conditions remain unfavorable for exposed travel and early commutes.

Tonight brings clearer skies and falling temperatures into the low 20s. That sets up another cold start Friday, though sunshine helps highs recover into the upper 30s by afternoon. Drivers heading out early should remain alert for isolated icy patches on bridges and ramps, especially north and west of downtown.

The weather pattern turns more active this weekend. On Saturday, a developing system introduces a chance of rain during the late morning and early afternoon. As colder air filters back in, rain may mix with or briefly change to snow before tapering later in the day. Surface temperatures hover near the mid-40s early, then slide downward by evening.

Saturday night and Sunday keep winter concerns in play. A slight chance of snow lingers into Sunday, with highs dropping back into the low to mid-30s. Any leftover moisture could refreeze after sunset, creating slick roads and walkways into Sunday night.

Marine interests should also remain cautious. A Gale Warning affects much of the Chesapeake Bay and tidal Potomac through tonight, with rough waters and strong winds expected.

Residents should plan flexible travel windows, dress for sharp winds, and monitor updates as the weekend approaches. Small temperature shifts could change precipitation types quickly.
