Baltimore, MD – A cold front is expected to move across Maryland, northern Virginia, and the D.C. metro area late Tuesday afternoon into this evening, bringing scattered showers and a noticeable drop in temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington.
Forecasters say not all areas will see rainfall, but isolated showers are likely to develop ahead of and along the front before moving out quickly. Rain totals should remain light—generally less than one tenth of an inch.
Once the front clears the region tonight, cooler and breezier weather will settle in for midweek. The NWS says below-normal temperatures will return Wednesday and Thursday as low pressure lingers over eastern Canada and high pressure strengthens across the Great Plains.
“These next few days will feel more like late fall,” meteorologists said, adding that a few additional light showers may occur along the Allegheny Mountains during the midweek period.
Commuters should be prepared for gusty winds and a noticeable chill by Wednesday morning, especially in higher elevations and rural areas west of the D.C. metro.
