Baltimore, Maryland – A reinforcing cold front is sweeping through Maryland and the Washington region today, bringing colder air, gusty winds, and the risk for accumulating snow showers in the higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, the cold front will move through during the day, ushering in blustery conditions with temperatures ranging from the lower 30s to upper 40s across much of the region. Winds will add a sharp chill, especially during the afternoon hours. Over the Allegheny Mountains, accumulating snow showers and snow squalls are expected, creating hazardous travel conditions at times.

Western Maryland, including Garrett and western Allegany counties, faces the highest risk for snow-covered roads and brief whiteout conditions in stronger squalls. Along the Interstate 68 corridor, sudden visibility drops and slick pavement could make travel dangerous. Elsewhere across central Maryland, northern Virginia, and the District, precipitation may briefly mix with rain, snow, or graupel as the front passes, though little to no accumulation is expected outside the mountains.

Drivers are urged to use caution, particularly in higher terrain, and to be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Gusty winds may also make it feel colder than temperatures suggest.

Conditions gradually improve tonight as snow showers diminish, but chilly air will linger into Monday. Additional advisories could be issued if mountain snow intensifies or persists longer than expected.
