BALTIMORE, Md. — Maryland is expected to experience a modest warming trend heading into Valentine’s Day weekend, though lingering chances for rain and snow could keep conditions unsettled from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.

High temperatures on Valentine’s Day are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s across much of the state, including the Baltimore metropolitan area. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the 20s, setting the stage for periods of mixed precipitation as weak weather systems move through the region.

Rather than a single major storm, the forecast points to multiple disturbances tracking across the Mid-Atlantic. These systems could produce light snow, rain, or a wintry mix, particularly during overnight and early morning hours when surface temperatures hover near freezing.

Western Maryland, including the higher elevations of Garrett and Allegany counties, is more likely to see snow or minor accumulations during this period. Central Maryland may experience fluctuating precipitation types, while southern and coastal areas have a greater chance of rain, especially during daytime hours.

Even light precipitation could create hazardous travel conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles may increase the risk of icy patches during late night and early morning commutes.

Temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly above seasonal averages, but no sustained warmup is anticipated. Winter weather is likely to continue through the second half of February, marked by variable temperatures and periodic precipitation chances.

Residents planning Valentine’s Day travel or outdoor activities are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely, as small temperature shifts could significantly affect precipitation type and local impacts across Maryland from Feb. 14–20.
