Baltimore, MD – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has continued multiple Wind Advisories for Friday, warning of westerly gusts up to 55 mph across the Blue Ridge Mountains, western Maryland, and the eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

According to the NWS, winds will strengthen overnight and persist into Friday afternoon. The strongest gusts are expected between 2 a.m. and 5 p.m., especially across high-elevation areas in Garrett, Allegany, Highland, Grant, and Pendleton counties, with lower—but still blustery—conditions across Frederick, Carroll, and Washington counties in Maryland.

Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph may knock down small tree limbs, blow around unsecured outdoor items, and cause isolated power outages. Drivers, particularly those operating high-profile vehicles, should use caution on mountain roads and ridge tops.

The advisory also includes portions of northern and central Virginia, where gusts up to 50 mph are possible through early Friday afternoon. Conditions are expected to ease by evening as winds gradually diminish.
