Oakland, MD – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon today for the Allegheny Front, Blue Ridge Mountains, and parts of the central Shenandoah Valley, where a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain continues to impact travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the advisory covers portions of western Maryland, western and central Virginia, and eastern West Virginia, including Garrett, Highland, Augusta, Nelson, and Grant counties. Forecasters expect up to one inch of snow and sleet, along with a light glaze of ice on roads and bridges. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will also contribute to hazardous driving conditions, particularly at higher elevations.

Motorists traveling along I-64, I-81, and U.S. 33 should plan for slick stretches and reduced traction, especially on shaded or untreated roadways. Officials recommend slowing down, leaving extra space between vehicles, and avoiding sudden braking or acceleration.

The wintry mix is expected to transition to rain by midday, but slippery spots may persist into the afternoon as temperatures hover near freezing.
