Baltimore, MD – A dangerous ice storm continues to impact parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia this morning, with hazardous road conditions and potential widespread power outages.

According to the National Weather Service, an Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until noon EST today for areas including Garrett and Allegany counties in Maryland, Frederick and Clarke counties in Virginia, and several counties in eastern West Virginia. The storm is producing two to three-tenths of an inch of ice, along with sleet, making roads, bridges, and overpasses treacherous.

Officials warn that significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may lead to widespread outages. Drivers are strongly discouraged from traveling due to slick roads and potential fallen trees and power lines. The Thursday morning commute is expected to be severely impacted.

A steady freezing rain has developed overnight, and temperatures will gradually warm later this morning, transitioning precipitation to rain. Residents should report power outages to their utility provider and avoid downed power lines.

For those in affected areas, exercise extreme caution if venturing outdoors. Stay updated with local weather alerts and road conditions before traveling.
