Washington, D.C. – A Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EDT Friday for much of central and northern Maryland, northern and central Virginia, and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, according to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington.

Overnight lows are expected to drop to around 32 degrees, resulting in widespread frost formation across rural and suburban areas. The advisory includes counties such as Washington, Frederick, Carroll, Albemarle, Loudoun, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Berkeley, and Jefferson.

Forecasters warn that frost could harm or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Residents in cities and towns including Frederick, Leesburg, Martinsburg, Manassas, and Charlottesville are advised to bring potted plants indoors or cover gardens before sunrise.

The coldest air will settle in low-lying valleys and open fields, while areas closer to the D.C. urban core may remain slightly warmer. Temperatures will begin to rise after sunrise, reducing frost impacts by mid-morning.

This marks one of the first widespread frost events of the season for the Mid-Atlantic region, signaling a noticeable shift toward late-October chill.
