Maryland – Gray clouds drift over Baltimore’s Inner Harbor this morning while the air feels cool but steady near 45°F. The calm start will not hold for long as a powerful March system moves toward the Mid-Atlantic.

Temperatures climb toward 57°F today, with mostly cloudy skies and a steady southeast breeze. Conditions remain fairly quiet through much of the day, but moisture continues building across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, showers begin increasing later with thunderstorms possible toward the early morning hours. Rainfall may briefly reduce visibility along I-95, I-83, and the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) as wet pavement spreads across the metro area.

The most active weather arrives Monday. Temperatures surge toward 69°F, an unusually warm burst of spring air. That warmth fuels showers and strong thunderstorms, some capable of producing gusts near 31 mph and bursts of heavy rain.

Drivers across Baltimore, Towson, and surrounding communities should expect changing travel conditions throughout the day. Wet roadways and gusty winds may slow traffic along major corridors including I-95, I-895, and Route 40.

Colder air rushes in behind the storm system Monday night. Rain could briefly mix with snow as temperatures fall toward 31°F, especially across northern parts of the Baltimore metro area. Little accumulation is expected, but slick patches may develop on elevated roads.

By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, skies turn mostly sunny with highs near 40°F. A brisk west wind may create isolated slick spots early where moisture refreezes.

Midweek stays cool with highs around 40°F Wednesday, before a milder push arrives Thursday near 52°F. Longer-range signals suggest warmer spring air could expand across the Mid-Atlantic later next week.
