Virginia – Rain is already streaking across windshields in Annandale this morning, with steady showers creating slick pavement and slowdowns along I-495 and Route 50. Visibility dips at times, and standing water is forming in low spots. Plan extra travel time through the late morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread showers continue with an 80% chance of rain and light accumulation up to a quarter inch. Temperatures fall steadily through the day, dropping from the 60s into the upper 40s by late afternoon as winds gust over 20 mph.

Conditions begin to improve later in the day as rain tapers and skies gradually clear. However, colder air quickly settles in behind the system. Temperatures plunge toward 33°F by early Saturday morning, setting up a brief window for flash freezing. Wet roads, especially bridges and overpasses, could turn slick before sunrise.

Saturday brings a sharp turnaround with bright sunshine and highs near 48°F, though a brisk northwest breeze keeps it feeling cool. By Sunday, calmer conditions and sunshine push highs toward 59°F across Northern Virginia and nearby Maryland suburbs.

Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures climb further into the mid-60s with partly sunny skies, offering a true taste of spring. A slight chance of showers returns Monday night, hinting at a more unsettled pattern into midweek.

If you’re heading out early Saturday, watch for icy patches and allow extra stopping distance. Are roads drying out where you are, or still slick?
