Baltimore, MD – After a stretch of pleasant early October weather, the Mid-Atlantic region will see the return of widespread rain starting Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center.

Forecasters say Monday will remain mostly dry and mild before beneficial rainfall moves in Tuesday and lingers into early Wednesday. The system is expected to bring total precipitation between 0.5 and 1 inch, with some localized areas receiving slightly higher amounts.

According to the NWS, showers will taper off by midweek as clearer and cooler conditions settle in through Thursday and Friday, marking a shift toward more typical fall temperatures. The rain will help ease recent dry conditions, and forecasters note additional showers could return next weekend.

The 72-hour precipitation outlook highlights the heaviest rainfall potential over parts of western Maryland, northern Virginia, and southern Pennsylvania, while lighter totals are forecast toward the coast.

Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts and allow extra travel time Tuesday and Wednesday as wet roads and reduced visibility may affect commutes.
