Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Freezing Fog Advisory in effect until 9 a.m. EST Sunday, impacting a wide area of Virginia, Maryland, and northeastern North Carolina.

According to the advisory, visibility may fall to one-quarter mile or less in spots due to freezing fog. The affected region includes Richmond, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Isle of Wight, York, Accomack, and Gloucester Counties in Virginia, Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset Counties in Maryland, and Gates and Hertford Counties in North Carolina.

Forecasters warn that freezing fog can coat roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces with a thin layer of ice, making driving particularly hazardous. Motorists are urged to slow down, keep headlights on low beam, and allow extra stopping distance during the early morning hours.

Temperatures are expected to rise gradually after sunrise, improving visibility and reducing ice potential by mid-morning.

This Freezing Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EST Sunday, December 7, 2025.
