Charles, Md. – Shoreline neighborhoods in Charles and King George counties could see yards and docks underwater this evening as a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, up to half a foot of water may inundate low-lying areas due to tidal flooding. Tides are expected to run 1 to 1.5 feet above normal, especially around the time of high tide. In Dahlgren, high tide hits at 4:46 p.m., while Goose Bay’s peak is projected at 5:51 p.m.
At 3.5 feet, water is likely to reach into yards near Cobb Island and around waterfront structures in Dahlgren. Drivers in flood-prone neighborhoods should avoid water-covered roads and obey all barricades, as even shallow water can pose serious hazards.
Residents are urged to move valuables off ground level, charge mobile devices, and allow extra time if commuting through waterfront areas. Tidal overflow is expected to subside tonight but could return with the next high tide cycle.
Warnings remain active through this evening. Further advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
