Bel Air, MD – A 16-year-old girl was killed and several students were hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a fatal crash in Harford County involving two vehicles and a school bus.

According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 2 p.m. on September 18 to Route 543 near Crescent Knoll Drive. Investigators say a northbound vehicle stopped to turn left when it was struck from behind by another car, pushing it into the path of a Harford County Public School bus.

Deputies report that the struck vehicle was driven by a 17-year-old male, who sustained serious injuries and was flown to a trauma center. His 16-year-old female passenger was fatally injured. The 39-year-old male driving the striking vehicle was not hurt.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that all students on the bus were safely evacuated. Six children were precautionarily transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Authorities said aviation support from Maryland State Police assisted in the response, and local fire companies provided aid at the scene.

“This investigation is still ongoing,” the sheriff’s office stated. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of everyone involved in today’s collision, especially those who lost a loved one.”
