Baltimore, MD – Residents across the Mid-Atlantic should prepare for more rainfall this week, with the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting up to 2 inches by Sunday morning.
According to the NWS Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, the region saw widespread showers over the past 24 hours, and another 0.5 to 2 inches is expected between now and Sunday, September 28. States likely to be impacted include Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, and New Jersey.
Forecasters noted that a cold front will bring a brief period of dry weather Thursday night into Friday, but conditions will shift again by Saturday morning as moisture moves north from the southern states. Despite the upcoming rain, hydrologists say no significant river rises are expected due to the dry stretch leading up to this week’s precipitation.
The rainfall will be spread across much of the Mid-Atlantic, with some of the heavier totals possible in southern Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania. Localized travel delays may occur during periods of steady rain, but widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts into the weekend, especially those with outdoor plans or travel through the I-95 corridor.
