Baltimore, Maryland – Flash flooding, gusty winds, and dangerous rainfall rates could hit Baltimore by 5 p.m. Tuesday as strong storms sweep the region.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday, with the highest threat for flash flooding during the evening commute. Up to 5 inches of rain is possible across parts of central Maryland, including Baltimore City, with the heaviest downpours expected along the I-95 corridor.
Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to push through the region between late afternoon and midnight. The NWS warns of “very heavy instantaneous rainfall rates” and isolated instances of damaging wind gusts. Areas prone to poor drainage, such as Falls Road, North Avenue, and I-83, could experience significant street flooding.
Drivers are urged to avoid low-lying roads and stay weather-aware. Rainfall between 2 and 5 inches could lead to rapid water rise in urban creeks and streams. Residents should charge devices, monitor alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during the heaviest storms.
