Baltimore, Maryland – A dangerous stretch of summer heat will grip central Maryland by Wednesday, with temperatures soaring past 100°F and heat index values near 110°.

According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for Baltimore and surrounding counties from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 9 p.m. Wednesday. This warning covers I-95 corridors, including Baltimore, College Park, and Towson, as well as much of central and southern Maryland, northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

The highest heat risk arrives Wednesday afternoon, when actual highs near 100°F combined with intense humidity could push “feels like” temps to 110°F or higher. Heat-related illnesses, especially for those without air conditioning or exposed during travel, are expected to spike.

Drink fluids, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and stay in air-conditioned spaces. Vulnerable groups — including children, seniors, and outdoor workers — should use extra caution. Check in on neighbors and limit time on sun-heated pavement or vehicles.

This multi-day heat event is the first extended wave of the season, and marks a sharp departure from early June’s milder temps. While storm chances increase late Wednesday into Thursday, no major cooldown is expected until the weekend.

Stay tuned to the National Weather Service and local emergency officials for updates. Additional advisories are possible through Thursday night.
