Baltimore, Maryland – A surge of summer heat and thunderstorms will break Maryland’s stretch of dry weather starting Friday, July 25, bringing a renewed risk for severe storms and heavy rainfall across the Baltimore-Washington region.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, seasonably warm and comfortable conditions will hold through Thursday, with highs ranging from 80°F to 95°F and low humidity. However, by Friday afternoon, humidity and temperatures are set to climb sharply, with showers and thunderstorms expected to develop—some potentially severe, especially west of I-81.
Drivers along I-81 and throughout the Baltimore metro area should prepare for sudden downpours, gusty winds, and possible flooding Friday night into Sunday. Mountain counties may see the highest storm chances, with rain probabilities reaching 60% and isolated severe storms likely. Emergency managers recommend charging mobile devices, securing outdoor items, and reviewing local alerts as conditions change.
After a dry midweek, this weekend’s storms mark a significant shift, reminiscent of last July’s active weather pattern. Isolated power outages, tree damage, and traffic delays are possible.
Additional watches or warnings may be issued as the weekend approaches. Stay tuned for updates as thunderstorms remain in the forecast through Sunday, July 27.
