Baltimore, Maryland – Residents across Central and Eastern Maryland should prepare for potentially severe thunderstorms late Saturday, especially between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and frequent lightning could disrupt travel and outdoor plans from mid-afternoon into the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a strong cold front moving eastward along the I-81 corridor will spark storms beginning around 3 p.m. in areas west of I-95. The most active window for the Blue Ridge to I-95 corridor is from 3 to 7 p.m., with the severe threat shifting east toward the Chesapeake Bay between 6 and 10 p.m.

Communities including Frederick, Gaithersburg, Baltimore, and Annapolis lie in the storm path. While much of the region remains under a “Marginal” risk, areas from Baltimore northeast toward Aberdeen and the I-95 corridor are in a “Slight” risk zone, signaling a higher chance for scattered severe storms.

Travelers should avoid non-essential trips during peak storm hours. Residents are urged to charge devices, secure outdoor objects, and stay weather-aware via NOAA alerts or mobile warnings.

The severe weather threat is expected to ease late Saturday night, but additional alerts may follow depending on storm development.
