Maryland State Police Arrest Two in Connection to Fatal I-70 Shooting

Frederick, MD – Two Howard County men have been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting on I-70 in Frederick County that occurred earlier this month. The incident allegedly resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others.

According to the Maryland State Police, the shooting occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, when troopers from the Frederick Barrack responded to a report of a shooting on eastbound I-70, just before Maryland Route 27. Authorities located a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck at the scene. Six adult men were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting. One occupant, identified as Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea, 20, of Silver Spring, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other occupants allegedly sustained gunshot wounds and received treatment, while the remaining three reportedly had no injuries.

The accused individuals are identified as Francisco Javier Sanchez-Juarez, 28, and Jeffrey Josue Diaz, 24, both of Howard County, Maryland. Both men are allegedly charged with first-degree murder and other firearm-related offenses. They are currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Detention Center. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and, following an intensive effort, identified Sanchez-Juarez and Diaz as suspects in the shooting. Both men were allegedly arrested on Saturday, June 29, without incident in Howard County.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators were assisted by various units, including the MSP’s Digital Forensic Lab, Criminal Enforcement Division, Forensic Sciences Division, Special Operations Division, and the Waterloo, Golden Ring, and Frederick Barracks. The Frederick Police Department and the Howard County Police Department also reportedly provided valuable assistance.
