COLLEGE PARK, MD – A Prince George’s County man was taken into custody after allegedly pointing a firearm at another motorist during a road rage incident on the Capital Beltway.
According to Maryland State Police, Stephen Eric Scroggins, 52, of Temple Hills, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first- and second-degree assault, as well as use of a firearm during a felony crime. Authorities said Scroggins was transported to the Prince George’s County Division of Corrections and later released on $2,500 bail.
Police said the incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday on the inner loop of Interstate 495 near Annapolis Road. A motorist called 911 to report another driver had allegedly pointed a firearm at them. Troopers from the College Park Barrack, along with investigators from the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crimes Initiative, identified Scroggins as the suspect.
Troopers executed a search warrant Thursday, locating Scroggins in a white Nissan Titan. A loaded firearm was reportedly recovered during the traffic stop, and police said the arrest was made without incident.
The Maryland Department of State Police said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to address gun-related crimes on state highways. Officials also noted that investigators continue to seek information on other active cases, including the murders of Delonte Hicks, Charles Marks, and Nyah Hairston.
