Baltimore, Md. – A powerful line of thunderstorms is expected to push across Maryland Friday afternoon and evening, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of the state until 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, the watch includes Baltimore City and 14 counties, from Garrett in the west to St. Mary’s in the south. The storms may bring damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to one inch in diameter, and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.
Counties under the watch include Montgomery, Prince George’s, Howard, Anne Arundel, Charles, Calvert, and Harford. Commuters around the I-95 corridor should brace for sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Power outages are possible, especially in rural and tree-heavy areas.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and stay indoors during storm activity. Those in higher terrain areas like Washington and Allegany counties could experience earlier development and stronger gusts.
The threat is expected to diminish after sunset, but additional watches or warnings could be issued if storms intensify. Stay tuned to local alerts and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued.
