Baltimore, MD – Drivers in northern Maryland should prepare for dangerous travel conditions Tuesday morning as freezing rain threatens to coat roadways, including the busy I-95 corridor. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain is expected to start early Tuesday, bringing light accumulations of up to 0.10 inches of ice. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will become slippery, particularly during the morning commute. Drivers are urged to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and avoid sudden stops to prevent accidents.

The icy conditions are forecast to impact portions of central, north-central, northeast, and northern Maryland, as well as areas in northern Virginia. Precipitation is expected to taper off by Tuesday afternoon as temperatures gradually rise.

Tuesday’s high will reach 45°F in Baltimore, offering some relief after icy conditions dissipate. Christmas Day looks partly sunny, with a high near 44°F, followed by mostly sunny conditions Thursday and Friday, with highs reaching the mid-40s.

Travelers heading out for the holidays should monitor local forecasts and consider delaying travel if possible during peak icy conditions. For updated road conditions, call 511 or visit Maryland’s Department of Transportation website.

Prepare for freezing rain by salting sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways, which are expected to become slick Tuesday morning.

• Wednesday (Christmas): Partly sunny, high of 44°F.
