Philadelphia, PA – Scattered thunderstorms could dump heavy rain on southeastern Pennsylvania and neighboring states by Monday afternoon, raising the risk of flash flooding in cities like Philadelphia, Reading, and Wilmington.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, slow-moving storms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and evening, bringing locally heavy rainfall to urban areas, creeks, and poor drainage zones. Areas most at risk include southeast Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia metro, northeastern Maryland, and the Delmarva Peninsula. While the chance of a severe thunderstorm with damaging wind exists, it remains low.

The greatest flood threat lies in the “Slight Risk” zone, where scattered flash flooding is possible, particularly along I-95 and in densely populated communities. Commuters and residents are urged to avoid water-covered roads and prepare for localized road closures. Small streams and underpasses may flood quickly during peak downpours.

Beyond Monday, forecasters anticipate another unsettled stretch with daily chances of showers and storms amid humid, summerlike conditions. Rainfall could be intense in short bursts, so keeping mobile alerts on and charging devices ahead of time is advised.

Flash Flood Watches may be issued as conditions evolve. Stay weather-aware through Monday evening.
