Annapolis, MD – A Maryland man was arrested early Monday after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash involving a state police patrol vehicle on Route 50 in Anne Arundel County.

According to Maryland State Police, 27-year-old Ryan Daniel Heim of Annapolis was charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree assault, transportation of a handgun on person, hit and run, fleeing and eluding police, and additional related charges. Heim, who was driving a Chevy Silverado, was uninjured during the incident and was transported to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center for a court appearance.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. when a Maryland State Trooper from the Annapolis Barrack was parked in an unmarked patrol vehicle on Route 50 near Route 450, assisting the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration. As the trooper sat in his vehicle, a Chevy Silverado—allegedly driven by Heim—pulled in front of him, then reversed, striking the front of the patrol car before fleeing the scene. The trooper was not injured.

Police said Heim continued eastbound on Route 50. Anne Arundel County Police officers deployed stop sticks, bringing the Silverado to a halt around 1:40 a.m. near Olivia Lane and Glenns Road in Severna Park. Officers arrested Heim without further incident and recovered a loaded handgun from the vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing.
