Maryland High School Football Game Disrupted by Gunfire, Police Say

La Plata, MD – Parents, students, and community members were startled Friday night when gunfire broke out near a football game at St. Charles High School in Charles County.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, a group of juveniles left the stands during the game and were later heard in the parking lot, where several gunshots rang out. Officers on-site, including the school resource officer, quickly responded.

Witnesses reported seeing the juveniles flee as deputies canvassed the area. Authorities said no injuries were reported, though one vehicle was struck and damaged. Officers are continuing their investigation and searching for leads.

The football game concluded safely without further incident, deputies confirmed. Still, the report of gunfire has raised community concerns about safety at school events.
