La Plata, MD – Two students at Westlake High School in Charles County are facing charges after an alleged theft and assault that occurred inside the school earlier this week.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Tuesday afternoon around 1 p.m. when a student reportedly grabbed a ski mask off another student’s head near a bathroom and ran inside. The victim followed, where the suspect was joined by another student already in the restroom who allegedly displayed a knife with an open blade. The victim left, and the incident was later reported to administrators.
Investigators said the two suspects, both 14, had previously planned to steal the ski mask. During the investigation, a knife was recovered from the student accused of showing the weapon, while cannabis was recovered from the locker of the student who allegedly stole the mask.
Both students were charged with assault and disruption of school activities. The student accused of stealing the mask was also charged with theft and possession of cannabis. The second student was additionally charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
The sheriff’s office said both students also face disciplinary action from Charles County Public Schools under the Student Code of Conduct.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities did not release the identities of the students because of their ages.
