Baltimore, Maryland – A sweltering stretch of weather grips central Maryland Thursday as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for much of the I-95 corridor, including Baltimore, Washington, and surrounding counties. Heat index values could soar to 105°, creating hazardous conditions for outdoor activity and transit.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, the advisory runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the most intense heat expected in urban and suburban areas. Daytime highs will climb into the mid-90s, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible—especially west of I-81 and in higher elevations. Gusty winds and localized downpours may lead to isolated flash flooding.
Cities including Columbia, Germantown, and Laurel should prepare for heat-related impacts, particularly on commuters and vulnerable populations. The Maryland Emergency Management Agency urges residents to stay indoors when possible, stay hydrated, and check on the elderly.
Looking ahead, thunderstorm chances increase through the weekend, with highs trending cooler—low 80s by Saturday.
⚠️ Warnings remain in effect through 8 p.m. More advisories are possible as storms develop.
